kristel & aidan: married | edmonton wedding photographer

I can try to tell the story of how Kristel & Aidan fell in love, but probably wouldn’t be able to put it as perfectly as they did when I asked them:

“We met during our first year of University in 2003. We both lived in the university residence and were friends for the first few months of school. We were unlikely friends – Kristel spent the majority of her time in the library and Aidan spent his time…well…anywhere but the library! But, as the weather got colder in November, we found warmth in each other and have been enjoying the seasons together ever since.”

As avid snowboarders and mountain lovers, it was only fitting that they wanted a winter engagement session, and then a beautiful weekend wedding at the breathtaking Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise near Banff, Alberta.  Typically my schedule and family life doesn’t allow for me to take on destination weddings, but this one worked out perfectly and I was beyond stoked to be a part of it!  And of course, since it’s not every day that I get to shoot at this amazing venue, you can expect that this blog post will without a doubt be super-sized and full of gorgeousness.   Definitely a wedding I’ll always hold dear– and that’s also due a lot to Kristel & Aidan themselves, two of the most all around awesome human beings ever!  Now sit back and enjoy some of my favourites from their stunning wedding day– I hope by the end you feel like you were right there with us 🙂

Kristel and Aidan got ready in separate gorgeous suites at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise— and both had breathtaking views of the lake.

I’ll tell ya– it’s not a bad day at work when you get to call this place your office!  The up close view of the mountains and stunning emerald/turquise coloured lake meant that I literally didn’t need or want for any other photo locations– it was just TOO perfect.  Like something out of a dream!

These 2 were seriously TOO cute.  Aidan, in between cracking me up, was just always the perfect gentleman looking after Kristel.  And even after 10 years, these two were still stealing sweet little moments and kisses with each other all day and treated their friends and family with so much love and affection.  I can tell you it really inspired me to want to come back here with my husband for a romantic getaway!

These next few shots are some of my favourites ever ever ever!

The reception just blew my socks off!  The amazing team of Sheryl Boury of Lynn Fletcher Weddings along with the incomparable Janine Sabastian from FaBLOOMosity transformed the Victoria Ballroom into a vision of warmth and romance.

Their cake, which was a surprise for them and designed by Aidan’s parents, was made by Cake Couture.   It was a replica of the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland where Kristel & Aidan were engaged.

I don’t normally blog a ton from the dance part of the reception but just couldn’t help myself this time because Kristel & Aidan hired some of the coolest entertainers I’ve ever seen at a wedding– “Dueling Pianos”!  Jesse & Jenesse wowed everyone (including myself) with their incredible on-the-fly song requests and impromptu piano riffs.  They bantered, sang their butts off, and entertained the crowd with well-known hits all night.  This was NOT like your grandpa’s piano bar!  Soooo awesome.

Kristel & Aidan~ I’m sad to see our time together come to an end!  You’ve both been so incredible to work with– generous, kind and so fun– and I hope our paths will cross again in the future.  Thank you for always taking care of us and making us feel like welcome guests at your wedding.   Truly a class act through and through.

Special thanks to my second shooter and DEAR friend Sharon Litchfield for not only accompanying me to the mountains for the weekend but for driving me too!!  I’d happily share a bag of trail mix in bed again with you any day lady 😉

This wedding is perfection. Plus love that they had it at Lake Louise-my parents had their honeymoon there and returned for their 40th wedding anniversary :)
