Opening an email from one of your upcoming brides with the question “If we decided to get married in Paris and wanted to bring you to photograph it, would you come?” is not the worst way to start your workday– I can attest to that! With their Edmonton wedding only months away, Angela & Eric decided that what they really wanted instead of a big traditional wedding was an intimate and romantic elopement in Paris instead, so they scrapped all their plans and followed their hearts. Along with just a handful of close family members (and me!), they made their dream come true and got married in the most romantic city in the world. And putting aside the obvious beauty and romance that IS Paris, the greatest thing I can take away from this day was just how incredibly connected Angela and Eric were all day. They truly made it all about celebrating the love they shared and being IN the moment. They were also so ridiculously good to me and did everything they could to help me capture their day as beautifully as possible– dream clients in every sense of the word! This day was such a gift, and I was sure to not let the huge honour escape me for one minute. This elopement also marked a pretty cool first: the first time my husband ever assisted me on a wedding! With it being also our 10th wedding anniversary, we couldn’t resist having him come along, and after I put him to work all day carrying my gear and catering to my every whim (holy I could get used to this!), we then enjoyed an unforgettable few days in Paris alone together. This elopement produced some of my all-time favourite photos and was without a doubt, a trip I’ll always cherish. I’m so grateful to Angela & Eric (and their last-minute plan change!) and I look so forward to more amazing travels documenting love all around the world.
Angela got ready in the most beautiful and classically “Parisian” apartment– from the minute I walked in I wanted to pinch myself. For anyone getting married in Paris or just visiting, this is definitely the way to go if you can! Look for great options on VRBO or Air B&B.
After the intimate ceremony, we were whisked away by a personal driver that Angela & Eric hired for the day. This was my personal dream come true! It took all the stress and guess-work out of the day so we were all able to just relax, have fun and focus on what was important. I loved that we could just tell him where we wanted to go, hop out, shoot and then text him when we were ready to be picked up again. He even made a beer run when the crazy summer heat got to be a bit too much. One of my favourite memories from the day was Angela, Eric and my husband cheers-ing their ice cold beers along the Seine River just like true Albertans!
Every wedding is different and special in it’s own way. The perfect weddings to me though, are when the couple makes the day truly about what is an authentic reflection of them as a couple– whether that’s celebrating in their hometown amongst 500 of their friends and family or alone together across the world in their favourite city. Just make it authentically you. Angela & Eric will now always have Paris, and thankfully, so will me and my husband. La vie est belle!
Angela & Eric~ Thank you so much for sharing your amazing day with me. Your whole-hearted trust and crazy generous natures really touched my heart and made this one of the most rewarding and memorable weddings I’ve ever had the good fortune of shooting. Wishing you both a lifetime of love, good health and croissants! SOOO many croissants!!! <3
