justine & joe: engaged | edmonton wedding photographer

Halfway through my engagement  shoot with Justine & Joe, they had me laughing my loud, cackling unattractive laugh– you know, that one I only reserve for when I’m not trying to come across as professional.  All of that went out the window and I just found myself running around with my camera and shooting what felt like old friends.  I’m guessing that the reason for this ease and comfort I felt was because Justine & Joe are adorable high school sweethearts– they’ve grown with each other, share each others’ passions, and have travelled the world together.  They’re comfortable and easy and really inspired me to capture their loving and sweet relationship.  Now I’m really really looking forward to shooting what’s sure to be a super a beautiful and fun winter wedding this January!  (although I should really start looking for a new parka…)

One of my favorites!  You guys make cool look so easy 😉

We really got some amazing light that evening!  Love these last shots and don’t think these two could look any more sweet or beautiful.

Justine & Joe~ I had so much fun with you guys on this night and I’m dying to see what you’ve come up with for your winter wonderland wedding!  I’m sure it’ll be beyond fabulous!

Another special thanks to the always great Anita Gill for her killer makeup job on Justine!

XOXO

Melissa Amazing!

melissa & sean: married | edmonton wedding photographer

Melissa & Sean are one of those couples that were so zen on their wedding day that you can’t help but feel like they know what this marriage stuff should really be about.  They had a nice relaxed wedding that was all on site at one of our favorite venues in the city- the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald.  Good thing too– it turned out to be one of those rainy summer days but we didn’t have to stress about beautiful spots to take pictures.  Instead, Cheryl and I got to hang out with Melissa & Sean and their super fun bridal party– they even packed along some cool props to show they don’t like to take things too seriously.  This day was certainly all about love, family, friends and an understated elegance that truly reflected their genuine personalities.

Check out some of our favorites from their wedding day~

This one one fun bridal party!  You can never go wrong with a good mustache 🙂

Then we snuck off with just Melissa & Sean for some nice private moments.

Melissa & Sean~ Thank you for being so kind and gracious.  You’re both beautiful people and we were so happy to share in your lovely day.

Big hugs,

Mark Fantastic is understating these photos, i dont even know if there are words for these stunningly beautiful photographs. It was like reliving the day. It was clear then and captured excellently, Sean and Mellisa were made for each other. Kat and Cheryl were awesome and made it very easy to be light and candid; it was a fun shoot for sure. I am very proud to have been a part of the day.

Radojka By far the most “original” and “different” Wedding picture that I have seen. You can almost “see” the personalities of the individuals. Love the “untraditional” poses. Beautiful people, beautiful picture…love it.

Mike I love the professional job done on the photos. You have captured some wonderful and memorable moments for my sister and Sean’s wedding.

the diep family | edmonton photographer

This post is especially awesome to me for a number of reasons.  The obvious one is that it features Cheryl–  the other half of Katch Studios… my best friend… the Gayle to my Oprah  (it’s my blog post so I get to be Oprah 🙂 ) And besides that, it features her hubby Tu and their ridiculously cute son Dax.  It’s long overdue that they had a good family session done where I wasn’t juggling my camera and my kids so while they were visiting us last month, I took them out and gave them my full attention!  We had tons of gorgeous light as our canvas and Dax (with the help of a pack of skittles) showcased why he’s one of the coolest kids I know.

Cheryl you are so beautiful and it really radiates even more when you’re with your family.

Dax is hands down the cheekiest, most animated kid I’ve ever photographed.  It didn’t take much to get him to ham it up for my camera!  Maybe because it was “Auntie Kat” snapping his picture and not a stranger?  Either way– it was great!

Then we capped the shoot off with a few of just Cheryl and Tu.  These two haven’t been professionally photographed since before Dax was born so these photos will be extra special to them.

Cheryl~  So glad we did this for you and your sweet family.  Hope you love the pics and let’s not wait so long next time 🙂

SUPER HUGS!

Gurdeep Great photos!!! I especially love the black and white picture where Dax is hugging Cheryl’s leg looking at the camera like, “You come any closer to this family, I’ll strangle you with my suspenders”

Cheryl HOLY!!! These photos blow me away, Kat! To say I love them would be a huge understatement! You have captured the essence of our family and given us these beautiful images which will always remind us of this happy moment and to live each day with the joy, love and silliness that you captured. You are a magician behind that lens of yours and I’m so lucky to have you as my best friend and partner. I am forever grateful – you can be my Oprah any day!
