summer in vancouver: pt. 1

Is it really halfway through summer already??  Clearly no one gave that memo to Mother Nature because it feels like all we’ve gotten so far is a handful of nice hot days with the rest being dreary and rainy– and that goes for both Edmonton and Vancouver! (yes, Cheryl and I like to gripe about weather to each other).

Despite all this, I was super stoked for a nice little 10 day vacation in the middle of our busy season!  I obviously already  travel to Vancouver quite frequently for work but this time it was pretty much 10 full days off to just visit with family & friends.  The best part about visiting your old hometown?  Being a tourist!  I loved showing my kids why I love Vancouver so much and luckily the weather actually came through for us pretty nicely for the majority of our visit.  I split the blog post up into 2 parts since I ended up taking a ton of pics that I’d love to share.

We started off at Granville Island (as usual) since the kids get the biggest kick out of feeding all the birds.  And then they picked up seashells along the beach while we walked the Sea Wall.

One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the Vancouver Aquarium.  Turns out it was a photographer’s dream!  The kids loved it too of course and I loved seeing the wonder in their eyes.

sandy & jamie: engaged

When chatting about ideas for their summer engagement session, Sandy and Jamie knew that there was 2 things they absolutely loved and wanted to incorporate into their shoot:  their favorite coffee shop and their adorable pooch Kuno.  This was right up my alley since I love dogs and I used to be a coffee barista myself way back in the day!  We had a great ol’ time and I’m thrilled with the variety we were able to capture in just a couple hours.  This really is like a snapshot into a typical day in their lives together.  Here are a few of my favorites from their session~

The awesome people at Credo Coffee Shop in Edmonton were cool enough to not only let us shoot there, but they even let Sandy & Jamie go behind the counter and make their own lattes!  Sandy’s foam situation wasn’t so good so she didn’t get much “art” out of hers 😉  but Jamie managed to pull a trick out of his hat with this very appropriate heart!  Very smooooth Jamie.

Their dog Kuno was possibly one of the most well-behaved I’ve ever worked with!!  He literally would do whatever they told him which really just made my job a piece of cake!  Not to mention he’s got the cutest face ever!

Sandy & Jamie~ Thanks for trusting me all the way and being so comfortable and natural snuggling in such public places!  You gave me shot after shot of awesomeness!

Thanks again to Anita Gill for the perfect makeup yet again~ love ya!

Sandy Kat these turned out AMAZING!!! I can’t wait till the wedding!!

the gloria family

As some of you may already know, we’re not taking on any new family sessions anymore and are instead, shifting our focus onto just couples, weddings and boudoir.  I’ve made an exception to this a couple times though with some clients we’ve shot in the past~ we just can’t turn away our old friends!  Ronna and I go waaay back to when I used to work as a makeup artist, and when we both had our first babies at the same time 3 years ago it really bonded us.  I photographed her & Sjon and their beautiful family two years ago when Izaak turned 1, and recently I shot them again with their latest additon~ another adorable boy named Loki.

This is a family of music lovers so it felt only natural to head out to the park with instruments in tow, after all~ the family that makes music together stays together 😉

Ronna & Sjon~  Thanks so much for trusting me with capturing your beautiful family as it grows.  I love you guys!
