easter in vancouver

Can you believe it’s already almost May?  I feel like I’ve just spent the last 6 months staring at snow outside my windows and now summer feels like it’s just around the corner.  Memo to Edmonton Weather Gods: Spring should feel longer than this! On the bright side, we were lucky enough to sneak away last week for a quick trip to Vancouver to spend Easter with my family and Cheryl & her brood!  I wish we can say we had a perfect trip, but in reality we all spent most of it sick as dogs.  First Kai, then Aaliyah, then me & Gurdeep… and from there we pretty much infected everyone in our path.   We jokingly referred to Kai as the “Outbreak Monkey” for starting it all!

Despite that, we still managed to get in a bit of fun too and judging from these pictures you’d probably never believe how sad and pitiful we all really were most of the time! (aaah the magic of selective photo-taking) Here’s some of our favorites from the trip~

Aaliyah with my mom– they’re pretty much inseparable whenever they see each other (perhaps because my mom spoils her rotten and does whatever she wants??  yes.  perhaps.)

Cheryl’s adorable son Dax– we miss this little guy all the time and love spending time with him whenever we can!

These two genuinely LOVE each other.  Considering how infrequently they actually get to see each other it’s pretty amazing.  Maybe they can sense their moms are already arranging their future marriage?? haha!

Come on now.  Is this not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?!  Love these these two cuties.

Easter egg- painting time!  Aaliyah, Kai and Dax were joined by their other little buddy Saiyrah for an afternoon of fun.  And so easy– we just soaked hard boiled eggs in different colored water baths (food coloring and water) then let the kids go at ’em with supplies purchased at the Doller Store  (have I mentioned I love Dollar Stores?)

Aaliyah’s “concentration face” apparently involves a puckered lip 😉

Ta da! Here are their finished masterpieces with Cheryl’s ring stepping in to play the part of “egg stand”  🙂  Guess it just goes to show that usually it’s the simplest things that are truly beautiful.

Aaliyah all tuckered out with her Auntie Trinh (my sis)

Thanks for letting me share a bit of us with you~  we truly appreciate everyone that visits this lil ol’ blog!  We hope you had a nice Easter with your loved ones and ate too many chocolate eggs like we did!

susan & dipesh: newlyweds | destination wedding photographer

These are a bit late but I did want to share them~  After Susan & Dipesh’s beautiful wedding here in Edmonton which you can check out HERE, the whole family jetted off to Hawaii for a nice intimate reception they hosted in Oahu, Hawaii.  Before the dinner festivities began, we snuck off for a bit to take a couple quick pictures outside of the Moana Surfrider Hotel.  It’s a gorgeous hotel, but was covered with tourists and vehicles so coming up with creative compositions to hide that was tricky!  We also only had about 15 minutes and since I was also a guest, I was in a cocktail dress and rockin’ some 5 inch stiletto heels while I shot– must’ve been a sight to be seen! ha!  I’m glad we were able to at least capture this special moment for them as newlyweds~

April 27, 2011 - 12:51 pm

sharon Um…I clearly should be a lesbian. I’ve scrolled up and down this page a million times to look at Suz. Then I realize these were “wedding” photos, so I went back and looked at Dipesh lol. Beautiful work as always.

the tung family | vancouver family photographer

Here’s another adorable shoot I did in Vancouver for an awesome little family.  Baby Jacob is actually cousins with Baby Matthew who I photographed back in the fall and we’re beginning to see that super-cuteness is just something that runs in this family!!  The shoot took place at Granville Island and we had so much fun just spending a nice afternoon together strolling around.  It was a running joke that Baby Jacob is a bit of a giant since even his chubby ankles kept making his shoes fall off throughout the shoot~ a funny story to tell at his wedding one day, perhaps?  Giant or not, how can you ever fault that cute little expressive face??  Here’s some of my favorites from the day!

Gloria, Andrew and Baby Jacob~ thanks for the lovely afternoon!  You are a beautiful family and I’m so happy I got to capture a little bit of your lives for you 🙂

Happy 3!

So if you follow this blog at all you may know by now that I kinda have a thing for parties, as is evident by Aaliyah’s first two birthdays which you can see HERE and HERE.  This year, when I asked her what kind of birthday party she wanted, she responded as any typical 3 year old girl probably would:  “a princess party!!”  After spending a day baking and decorating (stuff I actually love to do) Aaliyah woke up on the day of her party and came downstairs with her jaw agape and her eyes full of excitement.  Seeing how happy she was to have her princess party was all the appreciation I needed and we spent the afternoon having tons of fun with her little friends.

Here’s a couple details shots along with some how-to’s for any other crafty moms that are interested.  Enjoy~

Caramel corn cones that were super easy to make.  Just some craft/scrapbooking paper from Michaels rolled and taped.

In past years we’ve had our cakes made by a lovely lady named Karen that we affectionately like to call “the Cake Lady”.  But this year, I wanted to keep it a bit more low-key and also I was dying to attempt to make this rose florets cake I had seen on the web.  It was super easy and if you’d like step by step instructions just click HERE.

These paper pom pom garlands were very simple.  Just take a craft/scrapbooking paper and cut a bunch of circles.  Fold them each circle in half and glue 4 together along with string/ribbon down the centre.

For the treat bags I just baked off a bunch of sugar cookies and put 4 into each of these little treat bags I found at Michaels.  The little sticker seals are from there too.

These adorable little pink grapefruit sodas were an unexpected find from Home Sense.  The had a few different colors/flavors that would be perfect for various color themes.  The White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake was absolutely delicious and a total hit~ not bad for my first time making a cheesecake!   For anyone interested, here’s the RECIPE.

A Make-Your-Own-Princess-Wand table~ another great idea I found on the web.  Just roll out some sugar cookie dough, cut out a star using a cookie cutter and slide in a baking safe stick (which I found at Michaels).  Bake them according to your cookie recipe and let cool on a rack.  Then tie some pretty long ribbon strings to the sticks.   Then make some royal icing and slather the cookie wands right before you’re about to use them and just let the kids decorate them as they like.  The kids all absolutely loved this (even the boys!) Here’s the recipes I used for the SUGAR COOKIES and the ROYAL ICING.

All in all it was a great day.  Our little girl is growing up way too fast but with every day she blows our minds with her wit, charm and ability to melt our hearts in an instant.

To Aaliyah (Princess Vivi)~  Mommy, Daddy & Kai love you so much and we hope you’ll never lose your sweet innocence.
