drumroll please: contest winner

I thought I’d leave it up to my son Kai to make the big announcement (doing my best not to give him “Second Child Syndrome”! haha) But before we get to his moment of glory, Cheryl and I just wanted to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for the overwhelming response to our contest.  We were blown away by the number of entries, and then sooo touched by the unexpected bonus of being able to read such amazing feedback about our work.  Seriously people, if we’re ever feeling down or insecure we can guarantee we’ll be pulling up all your sweet comments to make us feel so loved and so inspired!!! 🙂  Thank you thank you thank you.

(now passing over the mic to Kai) And the winner is… Sarah N. (yay!!) Can’t wait to find out what kind of shoot we’ll be doing with you!!

At the risk of sounding redundant, thanks again to each and every one of you for taking the time to enter this contest and for the outpouring of love & support.  This will definitely not be the last contest or promotion we have so we hope you’ll visit us often either here, or at our boudoir blog or at our facebook fan page to stay in the loop!

XOXO

Erik Hornung Congrats to the winner!

tung family

If there’s one thing I know, it’s how to handle a 1 year old boy and make him laugh for photos.  Through Dax, my 1 year old son, I’ve learned that boys are pretty simple – they’re amused by just about anything – animal noises, peek-a-boo, goofy expressions (actually, my experience with my husband confirms that this is probably true of boys of any age!).

So of course, I was super excited to photograph 1 year old Matthew.   He was just as chill and good-natured as his parents… but a tougher audience to crack than I expected- ha!  My best peek-a-boo brought limited returns so I had to quickly pick up my performance.  Luckily, Matthew’s mom brought along a toy pumpkin which he couldn’t take his eyes off of and could make him smile better than my awkward monkey noises 🙂  Needless to say, Matthew now knows me as the crazy monkey lady who balances a toy pumpkin on her head (what??! I needed both hands to shoot of course!). Anyways, these photos made it SO worth it!

What a gorgeous family!!  And so glad we got in some fall leaves before they all turned to mush!

His beautiful mama Katherine really lit up each picture with her genuine smile.

Thanks Katherine, Ryan & Matthew for the fun evening and for being so darn cute!

lisa & jr: married

OK, so besides the fact that Lisa & JR are two of the kindest, most considerate people in love that I’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing, another fond memory from their wedding day that immediately comes to mind is how well they fed us!   When we first met up with them several months ago to shoot their e-session, JR had joked that his favorite scent on Lisa was when she smelled like food.  Um, hello– were we separated at birth?? And then fast forward to their beautiful wedding day this summer and everywhere we went, there they were offering Sharon and I something to eat!  Really, people– they had me at first bite.   But enough about the way to my heart~ this is about how they found their way into each other’s.  Their wedding was all about family, friends and celebrating their union with all the people they loved most.  As someone watching it all unfold, it was so apparent that all the little things just didn’t matter.  This wasn’t about the fuss and hoopla.  Lisa & JR were the consummate hosts and more importantly, they were as genuine as they get.  Which explains why they were constantly surrounded by a legion of good friends that wanted to help out at every moment of their big day.  It was so great to be amidst all that sincere love.  Enjoy some of our favorites from their lovely wedding~

They both got ready in separate rooms at the ultra modern and always awesome Matrix Hotel.

Remember what I said about tons of helpful friends always ready to help?  Most of these girls weren’t even bridesmaids… just true friends that wanted to be there for Lisa.

Looks like we weren’t the only paparazzi there that day!

I love everything about this shot.  Lisa & JR you two look fabulous!!

Gorgeous light, a beautiful couple and tons of love.

This was snapped on the floor of the Convocation Hall on the U of A Campus.  I’ve shot in there before but this is by far my favorite picture we’ve ever captured there.  So much drama and damn sexy if I don’t say so myself!

Lisa & JR~ thanks for always treating Sharon and I with so much kindness and consideration.  We really felt like old friends hanging out more than people that had only met a couple times 😉  Your wedding day was so much fun and we know that’s entirely because of the kind of people are.

Special thanks to Miss Sharon Litchfield for the assist once again.  Like a good meal, you always find your way in my heart!

XOXO

the linton family

Could this family be any more perfect?  I think not.  Jenny, Mark and their 2.5 children really made me feel like I was photographing the quintessential All-American family (except they’re Canadian, but you get the idea) They were all so at ease both with each other and in front of my camera, and were up for anything I suggested!  When I wasn’t running around chasing squirrels with their charming boys Jacob and Joshua, I was oohing and aahing at their super low-key baby sister Avery.  I also think that this could’ve possibly been the luckiest shoot we’ve had in a while– we got the gorgeous fall leaves just before they all dried out and turned brown, and then the  minute we wrapped up the shoot it began to downpour!  Lucky?  Perhaps.  Deserving, for this truly adorable family?  Definitely.

These boys were really just as sweet and fun as they look!  My favorite moment was as we were parting ways after the shoot I could just hear little Joshua yelling out “Bye Kat! aaaaaaw!!! 😉

Speaking of cute- I don’t think I heard so much as a peep out of this little sweetheart.  She just seemed so happy and content.

These boys were so in love with their baby sister.  Warms my own mommy heart!

Love this shot of Jenny & Mark

To the Lintons~  Thanks for spending that beautiful autumn evening with me.  You are a lovely family and I was honoured to capture that.
