happy holidays from katch studios

Santa came early to the Gill household this year, and we couldn’t be happier!  On December 18th at 12:11am, we finally got to meet the latest edition to our family– our son Kai Dehvan Gill.  Gurdeep and I are beyond thrilled and already so in love with his sweet face and peaceful vibe.  Big sister Aaliyah is adjusting to everything so amazingly, and just as I’d predicted– all she wants to do is smother him with hugs and kisses.  It’s too adorable for words.

On top of all of this, Christmas is tomorrow and then a few days after that, we’ll be moving out of our house and into a new one!  (YES, “busy” doesn’t begin to describe the week we have ahead of us!) The new digs will have a space for me to build a nifty little home studio too which I look forward to using to meet up with our lovely clients.  We’ve got so much to be grateful for and are so excited for what’s to come in 2010!

From Cheryl and I, we hope you all have a FABULOUS holiday season and that you spend it with all of the people you love.

Julianne Congrats!!! He is beautiful, I hope the two of you and your families had a safe and happy Christmas!

jessica & sean: engaged

There are some people out there that you just hit it off with immediately – no awkward introductions, no small talk about the weather.  Well that’s how it was when I first met Jessica and Sean this at their consultation this summer.  Somewhere between Jessica’s contagious laughter and Sean’s self-deprecating sense of humour, I felt an instant connection.

We shot their e-session near their home in New West.  With a gorgeous waterfront, tall trees, an industrial site and even a moving train – I was in photographers’ heaven!  I should also mention that Jessica and Sean are some kind of blessed when it comes to the weather.  After weeks and weeks of dreary Vancouver rain, the clouds parted and the skies cleared just in time for their photo shoot.  I seriously think that any bride who is praying for good weather on her wedding day should give these two a rub for some added luck!

Their dog Winston decided to get in on some of the action!  What a natural 😉

Jessica’s got some pretty amazing eyes!

Jessica and Sean – thanks for going along with all of my ideas, especially those out of your comfort zone!  Oh and Sean, I’m going to nominate you for a spot in next year’s calendar!  (little inside joke)

dana & jeremy: married

If I could get married all over again I DEFINITELY know who I’d hire to style my wedding!  Dana and Jeremy are not only the most gorgeous, chill, fun-loving couple–  they’ve also got impeccable taste! From the spectacle of beautiful details, to Dana’s impressive five outfit changes (yes- FIVE!!!) I knew that this wasn’t just going to be any ol’ wedding… this was going to be an event!   (and if I couldn’t be invited, I’m glad I could at least work it -haha)

Since this is going to be our last wedding post for the year (and since it was nearly impossible to narrow down my favorite shots) you’re going to be getting a SUPER-SIZED post today with tons of photos!  There were so many things I loved about this wedding and I feel like the photos really reflect the spirit, originality and style of their day.  Who knew Edmonton could look so glamorous??  And beyond all the hard work that must have gone into planning such a lavish affair, I can’t emphasize enough how gracious and warm everyone involved was!  Along with Dana and Jeremy, their bridal party and families were all a joy to spend the day with… which always makes me think  to myself “I have the best job in the world!”

What a way to cap off a great year of AMAZING weddings~  cheers everyone!  (oh and be sure to check out the slideshow at the end of this post to see more from their beautiful day!)

Love these shots of Dana basking in all her bling!  Too funny.

Dana’s nephew managed to steal the show throughout the day 🙂  He’s too adorable (and not a bit camera shy!)

The whole days’ events took place at my favorite Edmonton venue The Fairmont Hotel MacDonald.  The Wedgewood Room always provides such elegance and amazing lighting!

Wow were we spoiled!  Following the ceremony, Dana and Jeremy hosted a lavish brunch in the hotel’s Empire Ballroom.  Needless to say I almost needed a nap after all that yummy food!

Then it was back to the Wedgewood Room for a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony.

This is how kids keep themselves entertained!  I should really take notes on his shooting technique…

Not many men can pull off a fur shrug–  Jeremy not only pulls it off, he rocks it!  And the pinky ring is just too awesome for words.

Can we talk about the fur?  Pure and utter GLAMOUR.

Dana’s not doing much to quell my girl crush on her 🙂  Just stunning.

Special thanks to Renee of getwed Wedding Planning for making everything run so smoothly, and to the always exceptional Sharon for once again being the third voice of Katch Studios~  without you second shooting, my preggers self would never have made it through the long day!

To Dana & Jeremy~ thanks for choosing us to capture your fabulous day.  We had the best time and hope that once you two decide to make beautiful babies you’ll remember us 😉

Tons of Love,
